Here’s how to hunt legally in Sweden as a non-resident hunter.

1. Get a Swedish Hunting Permit (Statligt jaktkort)

Everyone who hunts in Sweden must have this permit – no matter where you hunt or where you're from.

How to register & buy:

  1. Go to 👉 viltdata.se/jagare

  2. Click "Register new hunter"

  3. Fill in your name, birthdate, address, email
    – Check the box for "No Swedish personal ID"

  4. You'll receive a hunter ID number

  5. Pay 400 SEK by card (valid for one hunting year: July 1 – June 30)
    ✅ No Swedish BankID needed


     

2. Buy Small Game Hunting Permits (NatureIT)

To hunt on public land (e.g. in the Jämtland mountains), you need a small game permit, sold via NatureIT.

How to book:

  1. Visit 👉 natureit.se

  2. Choose a hunting area (e.g. Handöl, Storlien, Storulvån)

  3. Log in or create an account

  4. Pick hunting dates, game type (e.g. ptarmigan), weapon (e.g. shotgun)

  5. Pay directly on the site

⏳ Note: Permits open 5 days before each hunting day, so book close to your hunt.

 

3. Bringing Your Own Firearm to Sweden

To bring your hunting weapon into Sweden, you'll need:

  • An EU Firearms Pass (from your home country police)

  • To declare your weapon with Swedish Customs in advance

🚫 Not allowed:

  • Organs, entrails

  • Meat meant for resale

📌 There's no exact weight limit, but quantity must be reasonable for personal use.

Remember to:

  • Bring proof of legal hunt (permit + booking)

  • Declare meat at your border on return

  • Say it's personal game, not for sale
